Opatija is a popular tourist resort situated on the Istrian peninsular at Kvarner Bay. Home to two of Croatia’s largest islands, Krk and Cres, Kvarner Bay provides the perfect base for groups to explore the Istrian peninsular and the Ucka mountain ridge that runs through the area.

Located close to the city of Rijeka, Ucka Nature Park contains lush vegetation and a number of rare and protected animals. Dating from the tertiary period, the canyon of Vela Draga remains one of the most attractive and intriguing geomorphological sites in the park.

Travel to Slovenia for a visit of the largest cave of Classical Karst in Europe with 20 kilometres of caves, underground passages, galleries and chambers. Guided visits in English are conducted partly on foot and partly using an underground train with students able to see the impressive layout of Karst topography.

Croatia’s answer to the Lake District, the park contains a series of beautiful lakes linked together by waterfalls which have been formed by the deposition of travertine barriers, creating natural dams. Students can follow the walking trail on wooden boards along rivers and around falls where geological processes continue today.
